In an otherwise well-written and informative article, on The Jewish Week and Temple Emanu-el Streicker Center’s program on “The State Of Our Union Today,” Gary Rosenblatt incorrectly stated that Jack Lew, who was treasury secretary under President Obama, “was the first observant Jew to have a cabinet position” (“Coarsening The Discourse Threatens Democracy,” Jan. 25).

Michael Mukasey, who served as attorney general during President George W. Bush’s last year in office, is an Orthodox Jew. His term in the cabinet preceded Jack Lew’s by more than four years.
