I was surprised and saddened to hear that Gary Rosenblatt is planning to step down as editor of The Jewish Week (“Jewish Week Editor To Step Down After 26 Years,” June 28). I can’t picture the paper without him at its helm!
Ever since I moved to New York from Toronto, I have always looked forward to reading your paper each week. My husband and I would discuss the articles over Shabbat; it was one of our Shabbat treats.
While I did not agree with many of your opinions, I valued how he expressed your point of view in a persuasive yet respectful manner and highlighted those issues that he felt were vital to American Jewish life today.
I especially appreciated that he championed issues that are close to my heart, such as the expanded role of women in Modern Orthodox rabbinic leadership, preserving the legacy of the Soviet Jewry movement and the inclusion of people with special needs in our community. You also frequently called attention to the need for Jewish unity, which can never be emphasized enough.
Your paper has been a fascinating, thought-provoking read! I wish you all the very best for the future.
