JERUSALEM, Jan. 28 (JTA) — An Israeli manufacturer has for the first time won a Jordanian government contract. The Elscint Corporation of Haifa, a leading manufacturer of magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, equipment, won a bid to supply the medical imaging system to the al-Bashir Hospital in the Jordanian capital of Amman, at a cost of $1.4 million. An official with Elscint said the company won the bid over several major international corporations, including General Electric, Siemens, Phillips and Toshiba. Israel and Jordan signed a peace treaty in October 1994.
