A security organization for the British Jewish community produced “A Police Officer’s Guide to Judaism.” According to the Community Security Trust, the guide was written in response to requests from members of the police force who wanted to know more about Judaism in order to better assist local Jewish communities. Copies were sent to every constabulary in the country, as well as to numerous diversity and community cohesion teams. The manual covers general topics such as holidays, dietary restrictions and modesty laws, as well as issues more specific to sensitive policing, such as how officers should behave when entering a synagogue and why Orthodox Jews cannot call to report a crime on the Sabbath. Electronic copies are available at www.thecst.org.uk.
