A technicality led to the appointment of Israel’s first non-Jewish president. Majali Wahabe of the governing Kadima Party has temporarily taken over presidential duties this week due to the fact that Acting President Dalia Itzik is on a visit to the United States. In Washington, Itzik is scheduled to meet with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and House Speaker Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).
