A woman who was on a 1987 trip to Israel with Sacha Baron Cohen is suing the British comedian for saying in a facetious interview that he got her pregnant. In a suit filed in Los Angeles last month, British-born Californian Heddi Cundle sued Cohen for libel, slander, invasion of privacy, fraud, breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and negligent infliction of emotional distress based on a 2004 “interview” that Cohen conducted on his “Da Ali G Show,” according to J – the Jewish News Weekly of Northern California. In character as Ali G, Cohen was interviewing novelist Gore Vidal about amending the Constitution when he went off on a tangent. “Me used to go out with this bitch called Heddi Cundle and she used to always trying amend herself. Y’know, get her hair done in highlights, get like tattoo done on her batty crease… very nice but it didn’t make any more difference. She was still a minger and so, y’know, me had enough and once me got her pregnant me said alright, laters, that is it. Ain’t it the same with the Constitution?” “Minger” is a British slang term for ugly. According to legal documents quoted in British newspapers, Cundle attended a youth trip to Israel with Baron Cohen, but claims she never had a physical relationship with him. HBO and Cohen have refused to comment on the case, one of many filed against Cohen over his characters’ outrageous antics.
