Hillel Argentina opened its first center in an Argentine province. The center, launched Tuesday in Cordoba in central Argentina, will serve some 1,600 Jewish students in the area. “We’ve chosen Cordoba because its local community has worked hard to achieve this dream,” Gabriel Trajtenberg, executive director of Hillel Argentina, told JTA. Two other Hillel centers are located in Buenos Aires.
Hillel board members from Washington and Chicago, as well as Hillel representatives from Brazil and Uruguay, attended the celebration. “To us it is both a local family celebration and a global family celebration,” Hillel President Wayne Firestone told JTA in a telephone interview. “This generation of students has grown locally and globally as well. And that is not only because of technology but also because of their foreign cultural interests.”
