The Palestinian Authority and Jordan arrested two Palestinians earlier this week for selling a house in Hebron to Jews. The settlers had been occupying the house since March 19, according to Ha’aretz. Hebron’s Jewish community condemned the arrest, saying it “exposes once-again the anti-Semitic nature of the Palestinian Authority.” Under P.A. and Jordanian laws, anyone convicted of selling land to Jews can be put to death. Israelis sparred over the issue this week, with some calling the arrest proof of the legitimacy of Jewish ownership of the property. Some activists, meanwhile, called on Defense Minister Amir Peretz to evict the settlers, whom they accused of violating international law and “basic morals.”
