Hamas gunmen killed at least eight members of Mahmoud Abbas’ security forces in the Gaza Strip.
In an escalation of factional fighting that has lasted nearly a week, Hamas attacked a Gaza training base Tuesday used by forces loyal to the Palestinian Authority president’s Fatah faction. At least eight Fatah men were killed, prompting the faction to bring in reinforcements that had been training in Egypt.
The violence has many Palestinians fearing a civil war.
Near the site of the main battle, Israeli troops stationed on the Gaza boundary shot dead a Palestinian gunman who was approaching them.
