Brothers held in cabbie’s murder

SIGN UP FOR THE JTA DAILY BRIEFING

Two Israelis are suspected of murdering a Palestinian taxi driver in a hate crime.

Police said that two suspects, described in the media as brothers who recently emigrated from France, were arrested Monday after confessing to the killing of the 35-year-old man from eastern Jerusalem.

The driver had taken one of the suspects to Tel Aviv when a political discussion turned rancorous. The cabbie was later found stabbed to death. Police believe the other suspect may have been complicit in the attack.

The victim was married and a father of five. Israeli Arab leaders accused right-wing Jews of stirring up populist hatred of Palestinians.
