Israel reportedly could agree to the deployment of international peacekeepers in the Gaza Strip – if they’re willing to crack down on Palestinian terrorists.Israel traditionally has opposed calls for international peacekeepers in Palestinian areas, believing they end up providing a shield for ongoing terrorist attacks while constraining the Israeli response. But Reuters quoted Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni as being open to such a force, provided it’s willing to search for terrorists and arms and play other “executive” roles.A diplomat at a Friday meeting with Livni said he doubted European countries would accept such a mandate, and considered her condition a polite way of scuttling any such deployment, according to the report.
