An Israeli engineering college was the winner of the Ministry of Environmental Protection’s first green campus award. Out of over 60 colleges, the ministry chose the Sami Shamoon College of Engineering because of its courses, ongoing projects, and commitment to environmental issues, Dr. Adi Wolfson, a researcher at the college said in a press release. Wolfson, who works at Beersheva’s Green Processes Center, said the college is the only one in Israel to offer courses in “green engineering,” teaching students how to best protect the environment while working in their respective fields. “Our hope is that, along with the knowledge the students gain, will come a feeling of obligation to deal with environmental issues, both as students and in their future professional lives,” Wolfson said. The college, which prides itself on recruiting students from all over the Jewish state, will formally receive the award in November.
