Security forces loyal to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas asked Israel to permit the import of anti-tank missiles, grenades and bullets to combat Hamas.Interim peace accords require permission from Israel to import military equipment into Palestinian territories. The request, reported Thursday by the Associated Press, comes as infighting continues between Abbas’ Fatah fighters and Hamas despite a truce negotiated in mid-May.Israeli security officials are discussing the matter with Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton, the U.S. security coordinator for the region. Israel has given permission for weapon imports in the past, most recently in March after assurances were given that the weapons would not end up in the hands of Hamas.
