Dovish pro-Israel groups are supporting a Senate resolution calling on the United States to actively pursue a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.Introduced Friday by Sen. Diane Feinstein (D- Calif.), the resolution reaffirms the U.S. commitment to a two-state solution and to Israel’s security while denouncing violence. Most notably, the resolution calls on the Hamas government to cease violence and recognize Israel’s right to exist. Brit Tzedek v’Shalom – the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, in a letter to its members, expressed excitement over the resolution’s call for Israeli and Palestinian leaders “to embrace efforts to achieve peace and refrain from taking any actions that would prejudice the outcome of final status negotiations.” Americans for Peace Now also commended the legislation. Said APN President and CEO Debra DeLee in a statement, “Rather than recycling old language and outdated formulas, this resolution deals directly and seriously with the situation as it is today.”
