Israel Singer will not seek re-election as the president of the Claims Conference.Singer advised Julius Berman, the conference chairman, that he does not plan to seek re-election at the board of directors meeting in July, according to a conference news release. Singer has been under a cloud since his dismissal from the World Jewish Congress in March amid allegations of financial impropriety. Several of the conference’s 22 member organizations subsequently announced they could not support having Singer stay on as president. According to the statement, a special committee will be established to identify potential successors. The committee then will make a recommendation to the board of directors.
