The Jewish Council of Public Affairs is pushing for the Nutrition Title in the 2007 Farm Bill.The title addresses food stamp benefit programs, simplication of food stamp and administrative reforms, commodity distribution programs and community food security programs. At an event to support the measure organized with the National Council of La Raza, Congressman Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) called hunger a “political condition.””It costs $90 billion to pay for hunger,” McGovern said. “Combating hunger is cheaper.”H. Eric Shockman, president of Mazon A Jewish Response to Hunger and an expert on hunger and poverty, proposed spending $18 billion over ten years on established food programs to cut the number of hungry Americans – currently 34 million – in half.
