Jay Zeidman, a former White House Jewish liaison, quit the presidential campaign of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) The departure of Zeidman, whose father Fred Zeidman was one the leading fundraisers for both of President Bush’s campaigns, is another sign that the onetime frontrunner is faltering. McCain recently sacked most of his staff and his campaign is reportedly in debt. He has taken hits for loyalty to Bush during the debate on immigration reform and on the Iraq war. The departure was amicable, and Zeidman does not plan to join another campaign for the time being. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Senator McCain,” Zeidman said in an email to friends and acquaintances. “I wish him nothing but success.” Zeidman quit his White House post in January to join the McCain campaign. His father, a lobbyist with offices in Texas and Washington, remains a McCain backer.
