Ban Ki-moon called on Israel to open crossings into the Gaza Strip.
“The Secretary-General calls for every effort to be made to open all crossings into Gaza for the passage of humanitarian supplies and workers, as well as commercial goods,” said a statement issued Friday by the U.N. Secretary General’s office. “In particular, he calls for the Karni Crossing to be opened immediately for the passage of commercial imports and exports.”
Israel has restricted access to the Gaza Strip since Hamas forces forced out forces loyal to Mahmoud Abbas, the relatively moderate Palestinian Authority president. It allows in humanitarian assistance.
