Former Israeli Finance Minister Abraham Hirchson will likely be tried for fraud and embezzlement.
Attorney General Menachem Mazuz announced Monday he would order the prosecution of Hirchson, who stepped down in April after felony allegations emerged against him.
But as is customary for Israeli public figures facing trial, Hirchson was given a chance to plead his case with Mazuz in person before a final decision is made.
Hirchson is suspected of illegal money transfers during his pre-government tenure as head of Nili, a nonprofit body linked to the National Workers’ Organization. He has denied wrongdoing.
