The first Israeli woman to play in a Grand Slam tennis final failed to win the tournament.
Israel’s Shahar Peer and her partner, Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, lost in the women’s doubles final of the Australian Open on Friday. They lost in three sets, despite taking the first set convincingly, 6-2.
“I’m disappointed but I’m excited to be in my first final” of a grand slam tennis event, Peer, 20, she after the match in Melbourne.
Peer was eliminated in the third round of the singles tournament last week.
Meanwhile, Israeli Andy Ram crashed out of the mixed doubles tournament, going down in straight sets with his French partner, Nathalie Dechy.
