ADL: Obama’s not a Muslim, but does he need to shout that he’s a Christian?

The Obama campaign clearly seems worried about the impact of the Muslim smear. In an interview with the religion website Beliefnet, Obama speaks in detail about his faith and his controversial church, and says he prays each day that he be “an instrument of God’s will.” In South Carolina, the campaign has been mailing fliers picturing the candidate in front of a cross with the quotation: “Guided by his Christian faith, Barack Obama is the leader we can trust to challenge the ways of Washington.” The latter has gotten the attention of the ADL, which has been harping on the “divisive” role of religion in the presidential campaign. JTA’s Ron Kampeas has a story coming with the latest.

UPDATE: Here’s the Kampeas story on Jewish unhappiness with Obama’s attempt to refute the Muslim smear with fliers in South Carolina touting his own Christianity.
