Israeli lawmakers are demanding that the Palestinians repair Joseph’s Tomb.

Dozens of Knesset members signed a petition delivered to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert insisting the Palestinian Authority take responsibility for restoring the holy site in Nablus as part of the current peace negotiations, Ynet reported.

Joseph’s Tomb, the West Bank shrine considered to be the burial place of the biblical patriarch, was reduced to rubble as the Israeli army retreated from the area in October 2000. The site, which was partially restored, is now strewn with garbage and its dome has been painted green, the color of Islam.

On Monday, Israeli troops accompanied about 30 right-wing activists to the site, Ynet reported.
