U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-Ky.), a first-term lawmaker from Louisville, has endorsed Barack Obama:
Obama … “will change the perception of the United States around the world almost instantaneously,” the 3rd District Democrat told reporters during a conference call.
“ Of all the candidates,” Yarmuth said, “he is the only one who has the potential to create the type of broad personal mandate that will enable him to promote real change in this country and real progress.”…
Asked what Obama’s particular appeal will be in Louisville and Kentucky, Yarmuth said: “I don’t think Kentucky is much different than the rest of country in that we are looking for someone to lead us through some very difficult challenges, and we know that we can’t do that in a polarized environment.”
In an interview later, the congressman said he was not criticizing Clinton. Rather, he said, “it’s a question of the right person for the right circumstances.”
“I’m not saying she is more divisive. She is less capable of bridging the gap in the country,” Yarmuth said.
