Iran’s nuclear program came under increased international scrutiny following a U.N. watchdog report.

The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a report issued Friday that Iran had cooperated with some of its queries but had failed to provide satisfactory answers about nuclear projects that could be used to produce warheads.

The United States said the IAEA’s findings warrant a third round of Security Council sanctions against Iran. Major powers are to meet Monday in Washington to discuss that option.

Israel called for a diplomatic crackdown on Tehran before it acquires the means to threaten the Jewish state’s existence.

“Since Iran continues to obstruct IAEA investigations and persists in flouting U.N. Security Council decisions, Israel believes that the international community must increase pressure on Iran in order to ensure that it will be denied the possibility of attaining nuclear weapons,” the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem said in a statement.
