A second Muslim was elected to the U.S. Congress.
Voters in a heavily Democratic Indianapolis-area district on Tuesday elected Andre Carson, 33, to serve the balance of the U.S. House of Representatives term won by his grandmother, Rep. Julia Carson (D-Ind.), who died in December.
Carson, a city councillor, converted to Islam about 10 years ago. He joins Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the first Muslim elected to Congress in 2006.
