Israel’s ambassador to Ukraine met with the country’s nationalities and religions minister to discuss countering anti-Semitism.

Zina Kalay-Kleitman met March 20 in Kiev with Aleksandr Sagan, the head of the Ukraine State Committee on Nationalities and Religions, to discuss interethnic and interfaith relations in Ukraine, the importance of interethnic tolerance education for children, and countering xenophobia and anti-Semitism.

Sagan said his ministry in an attempt to prevent potential conflicts on ethnic and religious grounds has established an interdepartmental council.

Sagan also discussed his bill offering protection to Ukrainian national and ethnic minorities, whose enactment by the parliament would bring protection for ethnic minorities closer to international standards.
