Palestinian terrorists fired a barrage of rockets and mortar shells on southern Israel.
A Kassam rocket on Tuesday made a direct hit on a house in Sderot. Also Tuesday, a rocket hit a guard post at the Sha’ar Negev Kibbutz.
An earlier barrage of about 18 rockets and dozens of mortar shells began Monday morning hours before seven people, including five members of a Palestinian family, were killed in the Gaza Strip while the Israeli army was targeting two Palestinian terrorists. The attacks intensified in the hours following the Israeli strike.
One rocket landed near a home in the Negev town of Sderot, one landed near a school and another caused a fire near Kibbutz Gavim in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council. Several people were treated for shock.
Hamas’ armed wing claimed it fired three rockets at Sderot, a frequent target of attacks, in response to the death of the family in Gaza’s Beit Hanoun area. Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the mortar attacks.
