Israeli police questioned two more American Jewish moguls in the Ehud Olmert affair.
Real estate magnate Sheldon Adelson, who also owns Israel’s daily Yisrael Hayom, and another American Jewish mogul were questioned by Israeli police in the widening investigation of alleged fund-raising irregularities by Israel’s prime minister, according to Israeli media reports.
Police reportedly questioned Adelson about whether Olmert asked him to help market a hotel mini-bar service run by Morris Talansky, the American Jewish businessman who allegedly transferred large sums of money to Olmert, Israeli media reported Tuesday.
Adelson is a close associate of Likud party leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
Earlier, Israeli police also raided a Knesset office looking for clues in the case involving Olmert.
The National Fraud Unit seized documents from the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry offices in Jerusalem that are related to the investigation against the prime minister. Olmert headed the ministry from 2003 to 2006.
The raid came one day after police raided the offices of the municipality of Jerusalem, confiscating several documents that may be linked to the investigation. Olmert was mayor of Jerusalem from 1993-2003.
Also Monday, Talansky was questioned at the headquarters of Israel’s National Fraud Unit, Ynet reported. The American Jewish businessman is suspected of raising funds that allegedly were transferred to the Israeli prime minister when he served as trade and industry minister and mayor of Jerusalem.
