The Zionist Organization of America held a lobbying day in Washington.
Hundreds of the group’s activists lobbied June 25-26 for increased sanctions on Iran; for placing pressure on Saudi Arabia to sever funding for radical Islamists; and for nonbinding resolutions calling on Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah Party to renounce alleged anti-Israel clauses in its charter.
The Fatah resolutions have failed to attract more than a handful of co-sponsors since their introduction months ago in both houses of the U.S. Congress. ZOA and other groups that have lobbied for the legislation have been unable to establish whether the offending charter it cites is authentic or current.
In addition to the 200 lobbying meetings, 40 Congress members – split evenly between the parties – attended ZOA’s events.
Keynote speakers included Michael Ledeen, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, and Douglas Feith, a former undersecretary for defense. Both spoke about what they said was Iran’s imminent threat.
