Ehud Olmert and Mahmoud Abbas will meet in Paris later this month.
The Israeli prime minister and the Palestinian Authority president will get together during the Union for the
Mediterranean summit scheduled for July 13, the AFP news agency reported Sunday, citing an official Israeli source.
The Paris summit will unite the 27 European Union members with statesmen from the southern Mediterranean shore to discuss shared economic, security, cultural and environmental goals. The French
government hopes it also will serve as a platform for furthering dialogue between Israel and its Mediterranean Arab neighbors.
Syrian President Bashar Assad also will attend the event, but is not expected to meet individually with Olmert, despite positive responses by French and Israeli officials to such an encounter.
