California State University, Long Beach received $1 million for its Jewish studies program.

The gift, from philanthropists Barbara and Ray Alpert, will endow a chair in Jewish studies for the 10-year-old program, Gazette Newspapers reported.

“This is quite exceptional,” said Gerry Riposa, the dean of the university’s College of Liberal Arts. “It’s really just an incredible time for this leadership gift.”
