Israeli troops shot an armed Syrian who crossed into the Golan Heights.
The shooting took place late Wednesday after soldiers spotted a man with a gun who had slipped into the Golan from neighboring Syria. Lightly wounded, he was taken for treatment and interrogation.
The Golan, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War, rarely sees violence.
Syria has demanded the territory’s return as part of peace talks with Israel that were resumed recently under Turkish mediation.
