JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s counter-terrorism bureau has issued a warning to its citizens to refrain from visiting Sinai.
Terror threats in the Sinai area have become much more serious, the bureau said in a statement Tuesday, and there is concern of a terror attack planned for the Passover holiday, when over 30,000 Israelis are expected to visit the Egyptian peninsula. Israelis currently in Sinai were warned to leave immediately
Officials believe terrorists will try to kidnap Israelis and smuggle them into Gaza. Hezbollah also appears to be involved in the threats, as revenge for the assassination of Imad Mugniyeh, according to reports.
The bureau last month issued warnings about travel to more than a dozen countries where threats have been established. Israelis often ignore warnings against travel to Sinai.
