JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel must compensate two families whose sons’ graves were relocated after the withdrawal from Gaza.
The Jerusalem District Court ordered the state to pay about $1.28 million to Moshe and Linda Stein and Rachel and Eli Loutati, whose sons’ graves were relocated from Gush Katif to Nitzan following the 2005 disengagement.
The families were not permitted to attend the disinterment. Photos distributed at the time showed soldiers exhuming the bodies laughing as they worked.
The renewed grief in one of the families reached pathologic levels, according to a psychiatric assessment.
