JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel and the United States have agreed that 2,500 housing units now under construction in the West Bank can be completed, an Israeli newspaper reported.
The Ma’ariv daily on Wednesday cited unnamed sources in its front-page report on the deal. Israeli officials did not comment on the report.
The housing units are in 700 buildings in several West Bank communities, according to Ma’ariv.
Another Israeli paper, Yediot Achronot, reported Wednesday that Israel and the United States were "close to an agreement on settlements."
President Obama has called for a complete freeze on West Bank construction.
