JERUSALEM (JTA) — A senior Palestinian official met with Iran’s foreign minister, a news agency reported.
Senior Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat met Friday with Manouchehr Mottaki in Sharm el-Sheik, Egypt, a senior Palestinian official told the French news agency AFP.
It was the first meeting between a Palestinian official and an Iranian official since the Palestinian Authority was established in 1994.
The two discussed the need for Hamas and Fatah to reconcile, the unnamed Palestinian source told AFP. Iran is a supporter of Hamas.
