JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli military court convicted a former aide to Yasser Arafat of financing a boat carrying advanced weapons to Gaza.
The court on Wednesday sentenced Arafat’s financial aide Fuad Shubaki for illegal arms dealing, and for his involvement in the Karine A weapons ship, which was intercepted by the Israeli Navy in January 2002. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
Shubaki was arrested three years ago and his trial has been ongoing for much of that time.
He also was convicted of funding terror attacks and providing funds for the Al-Aksa Martyrs’ Brigade.
Shubaki told the Shin Bet security service during questioning that the Palestinian Authority financed terror attacks against Israel in part by using tax money transferred from Israel.
