JERUSALEM (JTA) — The fervently Orthodox mother accused of starving her 3-year-old son will be indicted for abuse.

The State Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday that it would bring charges of child abuse and other offenses.

The woman is under house arrest and has not been allowed to see her son, who was released recently from the hospital, where he was being treated for being seriously underweight. She has been able to see her other children, however.

She was arrested last month after being videotaped removing a feeding tube from her son.

The arrest touched off riots in haredi Jerusalem neighborhoods and led to protests of Hadassah Hospital and threats against its leadership.

After skipping a required appearance for questioning last week, the woman on Sunday met with police but invoked her right to remain silent.

A psychiatric evaluation last week found her fit to stand trial.
