JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli defense company will supply an air defense system to the Indian Air Force.
The Indian cabinet approved the $1 billion deal Wednesday with the Israeli government-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
Under the agreement, in 2011 and 2012, Rafael will provide 18 of the SPYDER systems, which can intercept missiles in a 25-mile radius.
The deal had been delayed following allegations that Rafael has been involved in a kickback scheme.
This deal, the second major deal that India has signed with Rafael, makes Israel India’s main weapons supplier, the Israeli business daily Globes reported Thursday.
