JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli soldiers killed two Palestinian terrorists who were planting explosives along the Gaza border.

The terrorists were planting the explosives along the security fence in the northern Gaza Strip on Sunday afternoon, according to an Israeli army spokesman. Israeli soldiers on the scene fired tank and mortar shells at the two, hitting them, the spokesman said. Four other Palestinians assisting the men were reportedly injured as well.

The terrorists were identified as Abed al-haft Chalil al-Silawai and Machmud Achmed Muhammed Nazir, who are known to the military for recently planting explosive devices along the Gaza security fence as well as for firing mortar shells into Israeli territory.

Abed Silawai, 21, reportedly was an active member of the Popular Resistance Committee. Machmud Nazir, 20, was a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

The Israel Defense Forces said they are responsible for firing three rockets into Israel on Aug. 24 that injured an Israeli soldier.
