BALTIMORE (JTA) — At least 5,000 people attended a free Rosh Hashanah Under the Stars service at a park near Baltimore.

The third annual service, offered by the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, a 1,400-family member Reform congregation, was held at Oregon Ridge Park, a large wooded area north of Baltimore and home to outdoor summer concerts by the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

The synagogue distributed tickets prior to the service and will make contact with participants to encourage membership. Families have joined the congregation following the previous two holiday services, Executive Director Jo Ann Windman told the Baltimore Jewish Times.

The program was supported in part by the John J. Leidy Foundation and the Herbert Bearman Foundation. Other costs were covered by personal donations, as well as the Baltimore Hebrew Congregation.
