JERUSALEM (JTA) — Gazans will export lulavim to Israel after regular suppliers in Egypt tripled their price.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak gave importers of lulavim, one of the four species used on the holiday of Sukkot, special permission to bring in the palm fronds from Gaza.
Egyptian suppliers in Egypt, Israel’s main source for lulavim, formed a price cartel this year, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Importers told the Jerusalem Post that the decision came too late to have much of an impact on the lulav market this year.
Growers in the Jordan Valley also introduced their lulavim to the market this year, according to the newspaper
