JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel will likely deport 1,200 children of foreign workers and their families at the end of the school year.

No final decision was made during Tuesday’s meeting of the relevant Cabinet ministers, Ha’aretz reported.

The children were born in Israel, speak Hebrew as their mother tongue and attend local schools.

The Cabinet also authorized a special task force, called Oz, to continue to arrest illegal workers.

About 100 people demonstrated Tuesday night in Tel Aviv against the likely deportation.
