JERUSALEM (JTA) —  U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called on Israel and the Palestinians to restart peace talks without preconditions.

Clinton met last Friday with Jordanian and Egyptian officials in Washington in order to restart peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

At the State Department following the meetings, Clinton said she called for negotiations on all of the final-status issues, including not only borders but also Jerusalem, refugees and water rights.

"Resolving borders resolves settlements," she said. "Resolving Jerusalem resolves settlements."

On Jerusalem, Clinton added that "We believe that it is possible to realize the aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians for Jerusalem, and safeguard its status as a symbol of the three great religions for all people."
