JERUSALEM (JTA) — Hamas forces in Gaza arrested and detained a British documentary filmmaker.
Paul Martin, a freelance journalist, was arrested Sunday and ordered detained for 15 days when he arrived at the courthouse in Gaza City to testify on behalf of a Hamas operative accused of collaborating with Israel, according to reports.
Hamas said that an interview that Martin conducted several weeks ago with the Palestinian on trial and aired on a foreign television channel revealed secrets harmful to Palestinian security, according to Haaretz.
Martin is being detained in Gaza’s central prison, Haaretz reported.
A Hamas Interior Ministry statement said the Palestinian on trial confessed against Martin, saying the filmmaker broke Palestinian law and violated Gaza security.
A British official met with Martin on Monday in the Gaza prison.
