JERUSALEM (JTA) — An Israeli soldier was killed near the border with Gaza seemingly as a result of friendly fire.
The incident occured when Israeli soldiers fired on three Palestinians who had crossed into Israel from Gaza, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
The Palestinians, who were unarmed, were arrested by the Israeli military on Monday afternoon following their infiltration. They were attempting to find work and are not terrorists, the IDF said.
Meanwhile, a Kassam rocket fired from Gaza earlier Monday landed in an open area near Sderot. A second rocket fired from Gaza landed in Gazan territory.
