JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s most serious heat wave in at least three years has sparked major wildfires and record electricity use.
On Tuesday, the temperature hit 122 degrees in Eilat in the country’s south. Temperatures have averaged in the 90s for nearly a week, causing wildfires to break out in central Israel and near Jerusalem.
Israelis’ electricity usage hit record numbers; Israel’s Electric Corp. urged consumers not to use major appliances during peak hours.
Temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday.
