JERUSALEM (JTA) — A convoy of hundreds of vehicles hoping to defy Israel’s Gaza naval blockade has left for Egypt.
The convoy, dubbed the Viva Palestina Lifeline 5 convoy, left from London, Casablanca, Morocco and Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, CNN reported.
The vehicles are traveling by ships and plan to meet in Egypt at the Al Arish port, where they will attempt to drive into Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, according to the report.
The convoy, organized by the Viva Palestina organization of former British lawmaker George Galloway, is said to be carrying medical supplies, despite the fact that Israel lifted its ban on most products entering Gaza.
In January, Galloway was deported from Egypt and declared a persona non grata after attempting to bring a smaller convoy through the country to Gaza.
