Helen Thomas will be honored Nov. 18 by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee.
I keep on getting notes from colleagues — should we brief it? Blog it?
No. This is not newsworthy in the sense that it’s none of our business. Her exit from the news business was unfortunate, rankling and sad — but she deserves recognition for a life otherwise well spent in the business.*
She deserves recognition for, most of her career, straddling two identities: Journalist and Arab American. It’s a tightrope we walk here, and it can be hair-raising.
Meantime, my Uncle David, who I wrote about here, is, blessedly, a great-grandfather.
And it is, blessedly, a girl. A נינה.
Sometimes, the happiest endings are beginnings.
*UPDATE: Although clearly, Thomas still doesn’t get it.
