(JTA) — A retail chain in Japan has removed a Nazi costume from its shelves after a Jewish group requested its withdrawal.
The costume, which includes a black jacket with a swastika armband and a drawing resembling Adolf Hitler and the phrase "Heil Hitler" on the packaging, cost about $60 at the Don Quijote Company.
The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles sent a letter to the company on Monday asking that it stop selling the offensive costumes, the BBC reported. The center said that the swastika remained a "symbol of hatred."
The Japanese party goods maker Aico has made the costume for seven years and has never had a complaint about it, according to the BBC.
